Project Explanation

A few of my classmates and I as a team decided to make an interesting short film.
It will be a short, entertaining video on ...

HONEY BUTTER CHIPS!!!!

At the end of 2014, this product was a big hit and people were demanding more chips by the minute. All the supermarkets had no supply every time I went to go buy it because all the other customers bought it before me.
So for our final project, my team members and I decided to find alternative products for honey butter chip. By surveying students on campus, we will try to find the most popular snack that is similar to honey butter chip. After the survey we will analyze the results and test the project ourselves by eating each alternative source and stating our own opinions.
The whole purpose of this movie is to determine whether popularity or public trend influences consumer goods and decision making. I hope that the audience realizes how media and trend can trigger consumption and have effect on what we choose to buy. Also it will be very beneficial to inform people of the most popular and tasty snack to try next time!

My role in this project is making the survey board, analyzing the results and editing the video. Since I enjoy making movies and using editing programs, I thought it would be interesting to make our own survey film.
I am looking forward to working with my team and making a helpful and fun video.
Hope you enjoy it soon too :)

My campus image movie

This video is my own campus image video I made. I took 5 images of my daily campus life and edited it into a short film. All the pictures represent the small but meaningful things in my campus life. I wanted the viewers to view it in a calm and peaceful way so I added soft background music. Hope you enjoy! :)

Photography

Introduction to Photography
In the modern society, people are used to using digital cameras and smart phones when taking photos. Due to these digital advancements, the traditional film photography is becoming consigned to oblivion. Since most people are not familiar with film cameras, I will provide some information about both cameras for you to regard when buying cameras or taking pictures.
To start with, there are basically two types of photography in this current society. There is digital photography which refers to pictures that are taken by any digital device such as DSLRs to even phone cameras. Here is a video underneath that describes how digital cameras work.

This is a picture of a DSLR camera taken by a Canon DSLR. It is easy to control the focus with digital cameras.

Most people are familiar with how digital cameras work because many people own one or at least have seen someone use digital cameras. However, there are a lot of people who do not have much information about film photography. Film photography is the origin of photography before digital photography was developed. Pictures taken by film cameras are developed through light and exposure. Instead of printing pictures from the computer like digital photos, you need to use a dark room to develop the film of film cameras.

Here are two videos to help you understand how film cameras work and how the films are developed.

This is a picture of developed film taken by a film camera.

This is a picture taken by a film camera using the double exposure effect. This effect makes it seems as if two pictures are faded together.

Pros and Cons of Digital Photography
There are both many advantages and disadvantages of digital photography. To first explain the benefits of digital photography, digital cameras are very convenient. In terms of size, digital cameras nowadays are very small and portable. All phones even have digital cameras installed into the programs so people can take pictures practically whenever they want. Also, photographs can be immediately viewed and shared with others. Since digital photographs can be used as jpg files, it is easy to upload or send to friends and family. Another great benefit is that it is easy to change the picture after it is taken. For further explanation, digital photos can be easily modified into black and white or other effects. Film photos cannot be changed because they are developed just the way they are taken. Yet digital pictures can be modified very easily. Storage is also another advantage because digital cameras have memory cards that make it available to store hundreds even thousands of pictures in that small card. Once you save the pictures from the memory card to computers, the images can have a longer lifespan than printed pictures do.
Despite these benefits, digital photography does have its flaws. The cost of the camera itself has a higher initial cost than film cameras do. Moreover the instrument itself is very complicated to new users since it has multiple buttons and diverse functions. Without a computer, it is difficult to process the digital photographs and share with others. Even though the storage capacity is great, images can be lost if the storage devices crash.

Pros and Cons of Film Photography
Compared with digital cameras, film cameras also have benefits. The initial cost of the camera itself is lower than digital cameras because the functions are less complicated and much more concise. The permanence of the film allows the photographer to put much more effort and devotion when taking the picture. With digital cameras, it is easy to delete and take new pictures. However, film cameras have limited amount of pictures you can take, so it causes the photographer to think long and hard about the picture before taking the shot. The most distinctive part of film photography is that you are able to develop your own film in the dark room. Many photographers use film cameras just for the fun of making your own film.
Although there are many positive assets of film photography, the imperfection is undeniable. Although the initial cost of the camera itself is cheaper than digital cameras, the ongoing cost of developing the film is very costly. This is due to the reason that film cameras only have a limited amount of pictures that can be taken on a roll of film. Moreover, it is difficult to create film photography because of the necessity of a dark room. Nowadays, there are only limited sources of dark rooms that are available. Not only is it difficult to develop the films, but it is very time consuming. It takes at least 4 to 8 hours just to dry the film that is made. Lastly, it is difficult to preserve film photographs because film pictures tend to degrade as time passes.

Expression
Overall, I believe that both types of photography are important and must be equally used. Each type of photography has its benefits and flaws, which allows that photographer to choose the one that suits them the best. Film photography is disappearing nowadays due to the emergence of the digital society. These technical advancements cause people to look for new innovative devices rather than the traditional film cameras. Therefore, I believe it is important to both conserve film photography while utilizing digital photography.
Yet, if I were to make a recommendation, despite the beauty of film camera, I would recommend digital photography. I believe the convenience and immediacy of digital photography is undeniable. Whenever I feel the need to save a certain moment, I am able to take an immediate picture with my phone. Also I can send the pictures to my friends and family whenever I went under the circumstance that I have a cell-phone or computer.
Although I like the effects of film cameras, I think digital cameras allow the photographer to express more of the photo. I can modify digital photos and put diverse effects on them. By using programs such as VSCO cam or Adobe Photoshop I can transform the pictures I took into my own art.
Either type of photography can create great photos. After all, it is the artist, not the medium, which defines the quality of the picture.

How 'Fast and Furious' are you?

How much do you know about the Fast and Furious series?
As I was researching for my blog assignment, I found out so many fun facts about the movie, movie-making and the cast. Here are some interesting things that most people do not know. Let's see how much you know about the film!!

Did you know..?

1. The actual title of the movie is Furious Seven. Yet people tend to call it Fast and Furious 7. In Korea it is called 분노의 질주 7.

2. Walker's brothers Caleb Walker and Cody Walker provided voice and body doubles for the character of Brian O'conner. Due to the tragic sudden death of Paul Walker, body doubles, stunt doubles, and CGI were used to complete the film.

3. "Dwayne Johnson went through seven months of strict dieting and a heavily strength-emphasized workout plan for the role of Luke Hobbs." (IMDb.com, Trivia)

4. In the entire Fast and Furious films, Roman never calls Dom by his name.

5. The car Brian (Paul Walker) drives at the end of the movie, as a send off to his character, is a white Toyota Supra which he drove in the very first movie.

Fast and Furious Parody!

There are many hilarious parodies made by various fans that I wanted to share with you guys :) As a person who likes to make personal videos myself, I thought these short films were very funny and creative. I can realize the high reputation of the Fast and Furious Films from the numerous videos that people made. Here are a few of my favorites!

This one is a very cute parody that shows Furious 7 acted by children. The synchronization of the young actors are so adorable. I really enjoyed this one, especially the part where 'Brian' says "No, a third grader."

This video is a trailer with minions naturally starring in the movie. I thought this was so funny and cute because I really enjoyed watching the movie Despicable Me. It is amazing how people can edit and make these creative videos.

The last video is one from Saturday Night Live. Dwayne Johnson was the guest that week and they made a New Disney Movie, Bambi. Johnson is Bambi and they created a parody of Furious 7 with a Disney motive. I really enjoyed watching this one and hope you do to :)

Well, did you get a lot of new information about Fast and Furious?

I hope this post was interesting and entertaining for you :)

"It's strange how 137 minutes of non-
stop action yet tends to make me
burst into tears"
A few days ago, I had the chance to watch The Fast and Furious 7 movie. I looked forward to this movie like many other fans because this one is the last finale of the Fast and Furious series. Personally I adore action movies and the Fast and Furious series are one of the films that strongly influenced me to become the "action movie-holic" I am today.

To briefly explain for those who have not watched any of the Furious movies, the movie is basically about racing cars and crime. All of the films have different stories all worth watching. Furious 7 has a complicating yet exciting plot that makes the viewer become anxious the whole time watching the movie. The cast of the movie was unbelievable as usual, and the action scenes of the actors were amazing. The quality of the movie seems to enhance each time a new sequel comes out. More than half of the scenes were full of mind-blowing action moves and fighting scenes. I have to say, for a girl who loves TaeKwonDo the 2 hours were just amazing.

Despite the thrilling actions in the film, I have to admit the story itself was very intriguing but a bit "too much". There were two different crimes going on at the same time which meant that Dom and his crew were against two separate bad guys. Due to this fact, it was a bit difficult for the viewer to organize the plot while watching the movie. I think the directors and producers wanted to contain a lot of content within the film. They did succeed in making a substantial and meaningful movie, but to say it in a bad tone it was a little messy. There was literally no peace in the movie where I could just lay back and admire the screen. The whole time my hairs were standing because of the thrilling ambiance of the film. Some people said that their head hurts due to the non-stop action and fighting. In my case, I actually enjoyed the anxiety because nothing was predictable.

Although this movie is very contradictory due both the positive assets and flaws, there is one part of the movie that everyone believes is undeniably perfect; the ending.

*I do not want to spoil the movie for anyone but the information below might give away how the movie is going to end. If you don't want to know just skip!! Sorry :(

The last ending scene of the movie was perfect flawless in anyway. The movie ends with a scene where Dom and Brian driving down a long road for the last time. Although the actors do not say a single line, I was able to feel the bond between them. In between, there were scene cuts from the previous Fast and Furious films which reflected the long history and reminiscence of the cast and other staff members. It was more touching because of the thought that this film is the last moment of Paul Walker, the actor of Brian O'conner. Paul Walker died on November 2013 which was during the time he was filming Furious 7, due to a car accident. His tragic death broke the heart of many fans and this movie might not have been able to reach an end. However, thankfully the film was able to give his character a proper send-off. Captions that say "For Paul" are shown at the very last of the film to show the dedication to Paul Walker. The symbolic meaning expressed through Dom and Brian driving through the roads that eventually divide in separate ways was amazing. That was the last thing that was needed to make me start crying my heart out. These were the last lines of the movie said in Dom's narrations :

"I used to say I live my life a quarter mile at a time and I think that's why we were brothers - because you did too. No matter where you are in this world, whether it's a quarter mile away or half way across the world. The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room, right here, right now. Salute mi familia. You'll always be with me. And you'll always be my brother." -Dominic Toretto

A great ending to one of the greatest movies I saw recently.

Website Purposes

(1) Inform - http://edition.cnn.com/ is a renowned website that many people go to in order to read newspaper articles about international and domestic news. The readers find this site in order to get information about  world-wide issues that are occurring currently. Most articles give clear cut facts about a certain subject and inform the reader from a neutral stance. There are opinion-editorial sections that show which stance the writer is on but usually people read factual news articles.

(2.) Entertain - https://www.youtube.com/ is a website where people upload all kinds of videos and music to share with others. It is one of the most entertaining websites I know because you can literally find any kind of video from youtube. For example, all kinds of music videos and movies are all available on youtube. Also anybody can upload any video they want to share so I think it is really interesting and a good way to show one's talent. I usually enjoy watching and subscribing videos made by Jenna Marbles or Zack King.

(3.) Persuade - http://www.usatoday.com/opinion/ is a website where writers and editors express their opinions about political and social issues. This website is a 'persuading' essay because the topics of the articles are very controversial. In this way the writer writes the editorials in a way to persuade and convince the reader that his or her stance is correct. USA Today has the most controversial topics because the issues in the United States are expressed with a more clear and strong way.

(4.) Express - http://www.stevenaitchison.co.uk/blog/ is Steven Aitchison's blog on health, finances, relationships, writing, and generally keeping a positive perspective on life. This website is an 'expressing' one because the owner of the blog uses it to express and show whatever he wants to. The various topics he writes about are very interesting and he never hesitates to write about any topic. I think these personal blogs are all websites that have the purpose to express. I have a blog myself and I also use it to express my feelings and share my pictures.

(5.) Evaluate - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/critics/latest_reviews is a website that is used as a purpose to share film reviews and comments on the latest TV shows, etc. There are thousands of viewers that evaluate the latest movies or shows they watched and they share their personal opinions and critical thoughts on the site. Therefore many viewers of the website look at these reviews and decide whether to watch a certain movie or not. Personally, I read some evaluations on the movie Fast and Furious 7 and most of them were very positive. There were a few critics about the movie but most said it was a great movie. So I watched it this weekend and it was a very satisfying movie for me!
